Hello and Happy Friday Costco friends and Family!

Well, for me right now it’s kind of Friday everyday… At least for the time being as the restaurant is shut down amid the COVID-19 situation, so a little stay-cation it is then!

I decided to go to Costco a little bit later on today, wanting to wait until it was a little slower so 7 pm it was. And it was indeed super quiet… There was only 2 guys in line in front of me, and they weren’t all squished up together, respecting the signs reminding us about social distancing. Which I appreciate on a regular basis, I don’t like being all jammed up with a bunch of people anyhow.

Costco has really stepped up their efforts to make people feel comfortable in the store, and I will say that I appreciate all the work the employees have been doing to keep things orderly, clean and safe.

I did try not to spend too much time in the store today, as they are limiting the amount of people in I wanted to make sure I wasn’t keeping people waiting. I did see a few new products though today.

I bought a basil plant, because basil is delicious! And I was curious about the Guy Fieri BBQ sauce, but decided to hold off until we go through a few of the BBQ sauces already open in the fridge… Too many condiments folks, I have a limit!

And that neon orange KD cheese shaker… That seems like a dangerous product to have in the house, I feel like I would try putting that on basically everything I could. Obviously If I were having Kraft Dinner I would double up on the Cheesy goodness! I could easily see myself using that on scalloped potatoes, every single layer… Hmmm, maybe I should get one?!?!

I’ll keep you updated on that one. folks.

We’re trying to maintain a semi-regular schedule (though I’ve never been really good at the regular part) and keep ourselves busy. We have been playing lots of music together & I’ve been kinda teaching my partner how to play drums (I say kinda ’cause I’m not sure that I’m a great teacher) and that has been a blast!

We’re also still cooking up some awesome meals, and will continue to do so! Last night we made lemon/chili marinated chicken breasts with a red lentil dahl and plain jasmine rice.

I was really good, but we both agreed we may not have cooked the lentils quite long enough. They were still good (though we also didn’t add any salt, whoops!) but they had a much firmer texture than we were expecting.

We fried up onion, garlic and ginger. Added whole toasted cumin, corriander, brown mustard seed then coconut milk, a few fresh tomatoes homemade vegetable stock & obviously the lentils, simmered for 20 minutes and voila… Slightly under cooked lentils.

Haha, well we tried.

How about you folks, any awesome recipes you’ve cooked up lately or that you’d like to share with me??? I’d love to cook up some of your favorites and give them a try! Post them in the comments section so we can all try a few new things in the kitchen. I’d love that!

OK folks, I think on that note it’s time to bid you adieu.

Please take care of yourselves & your family… And your cats, feed your cats or else they’ll look at you like this!

Don’t let Ewok down folks… He’s depending on you!

Good night friends & family.

***Just wanted to update you here folks, While I did shop at Costco I was taking the precautions of wearing an N95 rated mask and nitrile gloves during my trip. Also not touching items I wasn’t planning on buying. I feel that it is important to take these precautions right now. This will be the last of the weekend updates for a short time until this all settles, but I’ll still be there on Monday, just later on when it’s quiet. Thank you again for your support and understanding!***

Please note:
The price at your local Costco takes precedent (or precedence) over the prices listed on this blog.
Costco liquidation/Manager’s Special items (ending in .97) vary from store to store.
An asterisk (*) on the price tag means the item is not being re-ordered.

  1. Thanks for all your posts! I have been nervous to go to Costco since all this Coronavirus stuff started. But it sounds like it might be a safer experience than a regular grocery store where people are handling unwrapped produce!

Long-time vegetarian and wanted to chime in: with any kind of beans or legumes, you can’t go wrong by even overcooking a little. Just adding some cooking time. I know what you mean by crunchy lentils. It throws you off!

    • Hi L. I understand being nervous in these times, I certainly am a little bit as well and was contemplating not doing the post last night. But in general people have been respectful of each other.
Ya, it threw us off a little bit for sure but it was good regardless.

  2. Hello!

    Thank you for the updates!
I’ve only just discovered your posts this week.
I was wondering which province, city, costco store are you visiting?

    Catherine
    Montreal, Quebec
    (Costco-Brossard)

    • Hi Catherine, these pictures are taken in the Kingston, ON warehouse. Thank you for reading and commenting, welcome to the family!

        • I read this post regularly but also shop in Montreal. I can usually find the same sales in Montreal, minus a couple of exceptions. I did not find any similar post for Montreal exclusively.
Ps. I appreciate the post greatly especially now. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

          • Thank you SJ. You stay healthy and safe as well.
There is a facebook group called “les across du Costco” that you should check out!

  3. Dammit (insert your name here)!! It’s 10:30am, I’m still in my pj’s drinking coffee cuz that’s all I can have until my fast ends at 12:30 and all you can talk about is food food FOOD!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Ah well I can cut you some slack since you ARE generously feeding my crave for shopping! So much appreciated… thank you mwah! 😁 ooops don’t want to get you in trouble 😳

    • Hahaha, thanks Jan. I won’t get in trouble.
Food, food, food is going to be taking up alot of the conversation moving forward as I’ll likely be cutting out my Friday shop for a little while until we get this under control ya know? Ah yes, the last few hours before breaking the fast were always my least favorite, I’d get so antsy for food most of the time. Stick to it though, the results are well worth it (and will help you ration some food right now too!)

    • Thank you, I’ll likely be taking my Friday shop off the table for now though but you can always check in anytime! Costco is opening early for elderly and those in need only so you may feel a little more comfortable with that. Otherwise I’d recommend staying at home as much as possible. More time to catch up the blog though!

  4. Hopefully you have stocked up on cat food! What do think about canned lentils? I bought some this week and am going to try them tonight but I am used to the dried kind.
Thanks for your efforts and pictures and recipe ideas. Much appreciated at this time.

    • Yes we have lots of cat food in the house, now we just need Dexter to go on a diet and we’ll be just fine! I haven’t had the canned ones for a while but I’m sure they’d be fine? I’ll be scaling back to just Mondays until further notice though, but I’ll still be posting throughout the week just not going to Costco.

      • Thanks; I’ll let you know how the canned lentils turn out . I’m glad you are limiting your trips to Costco to once a week for the time being. And of course glad to hear you are well stocked with cat food!

    • Thanks Kim. The split red lentis we’ve been using seemed to cook up in 20-25 minutes depending on how attentive we are to the heat setting. Which kind did you use?

  5. I’m glad to hear that you’re reducing your number of Costco visits for your own and your partner’s health and safety. Ok and the kitties too. 🐱
I don’t mean to be nosy but I presume this blog is a small source of income to you that may become more important as time wears on. I’m speaking here on behalf of myself and everyone here (not that I’ve asked anyone else lol) who’s benefitted from your blog, if there’s some way that we can collectively help to boost that income? Is it by the number of responses you receive so you can tell advertisers your viewership or by clicking on ads or ?? Please let us know if we can help with that. Small businesses are made up of our friends, families, neighbours and complete strangers who we get to know, just like you. I care. We care.

    • Jan I would imagine that the source of revenue comes from the number of subscribers and the analytics obtained via the “cookies” when we visit this blog. Therefore by subscribing and visiting, you and the rest of us are doing our part.

    • Hey there Jan, I appreciate that you’re thinking of me! Honestly the best way to help is by doing exactly what you’re doing, just coming by and visiting the site and sharing with friends and family. It makes a difference! Plus sharing your recipes and glimpse into your life helps as well!

  6. Hahaha Ewok! Suck a cutie!!
Selfishly happy you won’t be going on Friday’s, you’ve become a friend and I worry about your health!

So on to other things, command strips?!?!! This evening things are the best! Will add those to my list for this week! Wish I could fit that freezer into my car too…
Speaking of crunchy lentils, has anyone tried them baked by ‘three farmers’? They are super good! Costco sells them online, but you can also get them in the organic/health food section in Loblaws.

    Stay healthy everyone!

    • Oh wow! Not sure what happened there, dont’t think I can blame autocorrect on that one!
That should say ‘those things are the best!’ LOL

    • “three farmers” lentils? I haven’t seen those before. What are they all about Jenn???
I appreciate that Jennifer, but there is no need to worry. We are doing everything we’re supposed to be doing. Not going out except for once a week for groceries, which is my Costco trip, and by going later on in the evening exposing myself to less people, sanitizing and washing hands after unloading the goods. Though I gotta say, I don’t like only being able to go out once a week…

  7. Good post Jan in Waterdown! I would like to help out in any way I can as well.
I didn’t realize clicking on the ads would be beneficial to our wonderful leader.

I use every opportunity I can to tell people about your excellent blog and Facebook page.
I have mentioned it on Reddit a few time, they have a huge number of viewers.

    Stay safe everyone 🙂
