Things are certainly Buzzing around here Costco shoppers… Like this lil’ guy!

He is just diving headfirst into that flower, and is covered in pollen! (at least in the middle picture) They’re pretty fun to watch while they’re on the hunt! I can’t wait to plant a pollinator garden so I can look at these guys all the time, butterflies as well obviously.

There’s a great site you can check out for Ontario flowers, and they have 12 packs of flowers put together in “sun garden” “rain garden” “pollinator pack” “color pack” etc. I spent a few hours on this site last night and will likely spend a few more (and a few dollars) here in the next little bit. That site ontario plants totally worth checking out (especially if you’re in Ontario) and is full of great looking flowers and plants native to the region.

Speaking of the region, here’s a few Meat/produce specials from the Kingston, ON. Costco warehouse.

Not too many this week, but that beef pot roast looked pretty tasty!

Speaking of tasty, we did have a fantastically tasty time in Toronto last week! It was a very quick trip (9:30am train into union station, 7:30pm train back home) but I’d say we managed to get quite a bit done, and the weather was perfect (-ish, as perfect as you could ask for in spring here) First stop was El Catrin in the Distillery district where we had a few Caesars, table side guacamole and veggie tacos.

Delicious, and a great way to start the day. 15 minute walk from the station to the Distillery District, stopped in a few stores along the way (John Fluevog of course) Then a nice lite lunch, followed by more walking… and a cab… then more walking, the traffic was awful so we bailed on the cab and decided to walk.

That worked out to both our advantages as there was alot of shopping to be had along the way, but I also came across a Taqueria (Mi taco taqueria) I had wanted to go to- so perfect! I ordered a Carne Asada taco and I’d say they nailed it. Perfect street taco, no fuss. grilled steak, onions, cilantro and lime. (and some hot sauce obviously)

It was great!

More shopping ensued from that point along Queen st. west until about 4-ish (???) when we realized that we had deadlines here. We’ve got a train to catch, and we want to have dinner at one of our favorite spots – La Carnita on John st.  We certainly enjoyed ourselves there, and having been there before we knew a few things to order right away. Tequila, wine, beer and mexican street corn, followed by tacos and Kale Caesar salad.

The fried chicken thigh tacos, and the mushroom tacos here are amazing! (The chorizo taco was good, but chicken was better) The street corn is to die for, and the tequila selection is fantastic! (aquamiel blanco– DO IT!)

Just bear in mind this place is SUPER busy all the time it seems, so either make a reservation, prepare to sit at the bar (which is what we love to do anyways) or be ready to be put on a wait list. But it’s worth it, trust me.

Thank you by the way for all you recommendations for where to go! We didn’t make it to a few of them, but they are on my list of places now… We had very limited time this trip so we did the best we could, but we will be back!

Well, with all of that I think you’re likely tired of food talk and ready for the sales! So if you haven’t already skipped over to them, perhaps now is the time to do so.

Thank you as always for your comments, and your support! I look forward to it every week.

Cheers!

    • Thank you Mike, I realized (and had it pointed out) that I had the wrong tag on it. Whoops! Editing mishap.

  1. Yay ….. Costco day! I didn’t get there last week so I’m going into a bit of withdrawal lol. Thanks a bunch, Jan

    • Cripes! I went to “my” warehouse yesterday and couldn’t believe how busy it was! Usually, I manage to go in the afternoon just when it’s getting busy (I’m not a morning person) so decided to try around 10:45am and the parking lot was jammed… it looked like Christmas! I did score a great spot but then when I got inside with my returns, the lineup was huge. Ah well, took a deep breath and chilled out since apparently I was part of the problem! I decided to get the heck outta there and tried to sell my parking spot to a guy. At least I made him laugh ?!

  2. Anyone know where in the Kingston costco i would find the dog joint supplement listed here? I searched but could not find.

  3. Well I’m starving now after looking at your wonderful food pictures . Looks like you had a perfect day in the big city. And the pictures of the busy bee are fantastic. Good luck with the pollinator garden. Try some milkweed plant seed for butterflies. The monarchs are in dire need of it.
Thanks for the post, loved it.

  4. Wow, thank you for this find: The Innova Ribbon vanity light. I’ve called Costco with the product number in hand and they had a few left at Costco Anjou. So, I’m heading there right away. Thanks again for your weekly publication! 🙂

  5. Oshawa Costco put the packages of Spring/Summer plant bulbs on clearance. They were 14.99 and are now 9.97. Located by the dairy fridges yesterday. Hostas, gladioli, clementine, day lilies and more. A full skid!
    🙂
