Hello and happy (almost) weekend you Costco shoppers! I hope your week has been great so far, I know mine has been pretty good.
I just wanted to post a little update here as I was at Costco yesterday and a few things popped out at me that were new items since monday.
First off Head gloves and mittens in kids sizes are in stock now at only 14.99, so you can add to the kids snowsuit collection. I’m sure hats will be coming by soon too.
Next up are these Sanrah sandles by Crocs. I know that people are divided on Crocs- you either love ’em or you hate ’em. When I was in Kitchens all the time I found my Crocs to be a life saver, super comfortable, non-slip, durable and they are washable so… no odor. Which is always good! These aren’t going to be acceptable for kitchen work though, but I would imagine them to be as comfortable and durable as the other crocs I’ve worn and that price is a steal.
Here’s something that came up this week from a reader looking for Kirkland green tea. She sent me a message asking if I had seen the boxes of it at my location, which I felt as though I had, so I went looking for them and nothing… They weren’t there, seeming replaced by this-
I’m sure its just as delicious, but struck me as odd they would remove their own brand. Any one else have this happen at their location?
And who doesn’t love sunflowers?
(Also a fantastic Beach Boys album IMO)
This now brings me (no particular association with the beach boys) to something happening to our southerly neighbors. Evidently Costco U.S. is discontinuing their polish hot dog! https://vancouversun.com/life/food/costco-is-ditching-one-of-its-hot-dogs-in-the-u-s The reaction to this is CRAZY!!! There is even a twitter movement #SaveThePolishDog happening complete with petitions, threats of cancelling memberships etc. Now look…. I love my Costco hot dogs (I had one on Monday… I know they aren’t healthy but hey, I can’t be perfect (or anywhere close to it) most of the time and I gotta give in to a craving once and a while ya know?) But I don’t think I would cancel my membership if they took it off the menu, I just wouldn’t, I don’t go for the hotdogs or sausages I go for the deals and stay (on occasion) for a guilty pleasure. What do you think? How angry would you be if Costco removed your favorite food item from the food court? Would you cancel your membership? Lodge a formal complaint? Skip it and make food at home with all your purchases?
(bear in mind this is happening in the U.S.A. so it shouldn’t be effecting us here in the great north)
Anyways, Food for thought… Until it’s not.
Oh no! Not the polish!
The link above says only in the US but Oshawa Costco didn’t have any polish in the cooler yesterday 🙁
Hey Sherri, from what I’ve read it should only be in the U.S. that the Polish is being discontinued… Maybe Oshawa was just out of stock? Let’s hope anyways!
I was at the Scarborough one today – still had polish!!
Good to know! Canadian Costco locations aren’t ditching our Polish dogs, just the U.S. locations
I went in looking for Kirkland green tea, my absolute favourite, and it was all gone from Costco (Ajax). I hope they haven’t discontinued it.
Kirkland energy bars also seem to have gone the way of the dodo bird.
If you mean the protein bars, I did see this answer in their Facebook page the other day: Thank you for following-up on the availability of our KS Protein Bars. We were previously unable to provide more detailed information as we were awaiting the outcome of a discussion between the Federal Government and the manufacturer of the bars. As a result of those discussions, the manufacturer has decided to reformulate the bars. We are pleased that you enjoy our KS Protein bars and are sure you will enjoy the new reformulated ones as well. We look forward to having our bars back in our Canadian locations soon. -Cathy
Love the polish sausage!! But not enough to cancel my membership, there are far to many great deals to consider that..
Totally agree Ken.
But isn’t the Hotdog at the price – a Costco Trademark? It’s not so much the loss of the hotdog but the underlying current of change – and not a positive change
Hi, the hotdogs they serve aren’t the polish. They have 2 types. A lot of people don’t realize that.
Well they’ve got the 2 types yes, in the states they are keeping the all beef dogs and discontinuing the polish ones. We here in Canada don’t have to worry about that.
The idea was they wanted to add a healthier option to the menu, while the all beef hot dog stays the polish loses out… As Canadians we get to enjoy them both though!
One of our favourite stops with grandkids is for the polish or a dog . . . . .

George, I have a hard time not stopping for a hotdog every week… Thankfully I have the will of mashed potatoes so I only give in 3 out of 4 times.
I love Crocs . The sandals are great and comfy . I have 3 pair but not that one . Great price ! Thanks for the second post this week .
Always a pleasure
Going to grab these mittens today. Thanks please lets know when back to school stuff comes in as well. Root back packs water and food containers etc. Thanks again
They are in this week!!!
Love this update, very interesting.
Thanks a million!
Thanks Layla, it was a fun little one, This weeks post is up now as well.
