Costco East & West website updates July 3rd 2021

Hello my fellow Costco friends and family!

Just a friendly little Sunday morning “hello!”  and some updates and information about our continued quest to improve our website.

NEWSLETTER UPDATE

We have successfully migrated our newsletter to a new service, since our previous service (Google Feedburner) is ending this month.

The only problems is that many of these E-mails are being directed directly to SPAM folders. Please check your SPAM folder to see if the newsletter is being sent there instead! The E-mail will come from Costco East Fan Blog (info@cocoeast.ca)

If you use a service like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail, please check off the “not SPAM” button so that these mail services know that this E-mail is NOT SPAM.

You can also add info@cocoeast.ca to your E-mail address book. This way your mail provider will know not to send these E-mails to your SPAM folder.

OTHER WEBSITE UPDATES

Believe it or not, we are still data entering all the old photos into our search engine! We have successfully entered 33457 photos into the database and we have just under 30,000 photos left. As of now, the photos go back to April, 2019.

USER REQUESTS

Now that the newsletter & search engine has been completed, we have time to work on some user requests! we’d love to hear from you on what improvements are next!

Right now, we are working on the following tasks:

– Return colour photos back to the price tag
– Improve the quality of the price tag in the photos
– Making photos clickable to load a High Quality version of the photo
– Adding a price history button in the caption of each photo to load historical sale data

After this, we have some ideas that we would like to get to, but we would love to hear from you! If you have any ideas on additional functionality for the blog, please let me know in the comments!

So there you go, a little reading material for you.

Be kind, be safe and stay healthy!

Please note:
The price at your local Costco takes precedent (or precedence) over the prices listed on this blog.
Costco liquidation/Manager’s Special items (ending in .97) vary from store to store.
An asterisk (*) on the price tag means the item is not being re-ordered.

If there is something you really want, ***double check the expiry date*** as some Costco sales items do end mid-week.

  1. Good morning! I check your blog weekly before my Costco run and it is super helpful! It would be great if we could tap on a picture and add it to a grocery list, similar to the Flipp app. Thank you for all you do!

  2. Hello, thank you very much for your continued excellent work!!! We all appreciate it so much and helps to make our Costco shopping experience much better and saves us lot’s of money! 🙂

I would love to see some sort of list option. For example, let’s say I look through the vast number of items on sale but am only interested in purchasing let’s say 15 or so. I would like to be able to “add to list” these items to make my final shopping list easier. It would be awesome if we would be able to add other items to our list that we regularly buy such as bread, milk, eggs, butter, etc..
This final list could be on our phones or printable for those who would like a hard copy.
I don’t know if this is possible but it sure would be a fantastic feature!!!
Thanks very much, stay safe and keep cool. 🙂

  3. Hey there, thanks for asking!
I only follow one other blog besides yours, and it has the ability to notify me, via email, when someone posts a “reply” to my comments. I like reading your responses to my rants/ramblings or if I ask a question or opinion of the other great folks here and they provide further info or funny remarks. The only way to find out if that has happened is to reread previous comment sections. I have no idea if it’s even remotely possible but it would be fab! Also like the “list” idea too!
    Cheers for now, Jan

    • I love this idea Jan!
I always go back to the previous one to see if anyone has responded, would make it much easier if we had some sort of notification.
Otherwise, I think the blog is great and have no requests for any changes 🙂

  4. Would it be possible to have a tab by province as I will note some items from your list that are on sale and are regular price at the store?

    • Hi Robette,
Our fantastic blogger only takes pictures of the local Costco, in Kingston, Ontario. Unless there are others that would take pictures and do similarly, there are no other locations to post about.

  5. And a “search” button would be great for those items I want/forgot to buy and can’t remember when they were on sale etc etc 😬

  6. Looking forward to improved photo quality, so I can read more details of an item.
Keep up the great work! You’re awesome!
