Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Chocovia Dubai Style Chocolate Variety Pack, Costco Plaisirs Gastronomiques Tourtière, Costco Ocean Pier Smoked Salmon and Crab Cake Bites and the Costco Kirkland Signature Toffee Shortbread Cookies.

Today I’m reviewing these Schaaf Foods Golden and Marble Loaf Cakes from Costco. I’ve heard good things about these so I wanted to try them. There are three large loafs in the container, two marble and one golden and the cost is $10.99 Canadian.

The best before date is only about a week from when I purchased the loaf cakes. If you’re not going to eat them right away I would immediately freeze them to help maintain their freshness. These are nut free so they’re a good option for a school snack. The golden loaf can also be used as a base for a variety of toppings like fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

The nutrition facts for both kinds of loaf cake are the same except for a slight difference in sodium. They’re definitely not low in sugar, fat or calories but I think that’s kind of expected. At least the nutrition facts are for 1/6th of the loaf and not 1/16th.

These loaf cakes are just okay, the golden tastes like a vanilla pound cake and the marble has golden mixed with chocolate cake. The texture is quite light and it’s moist on the outside but a bit dry on the inside. They’re rather sweet and taste pretty processed, the flavor reminds me of the old jumbo Costco muffins.
