I saw these Upper Crust Bakery Tuxedo Bites at Costco during our trip last week and I had to pick them up because I love tuxedo-flavored anything!
I paid $11.99 Canadian for the 850-gram container of bites.
These are packaged in a plastic resealable tub and the bites are stacked on one another. The best before date is a little less than a month from when I purchased them. That’s a long time for them to be out and stay fresh and not go stale in my opinion. I think it’s easy to pop the whole container in the freezer so I’d do that instead of leaving them out. I went to a party where these were served and they actually had taken the bites out and put them in little coloured cupcake wrappers and it looked really nice. Nicer than just leaving the tub out. I think kids would enjoy these for sure.
Two bites contain 260 calories, 11 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 31 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 200 milligrams of sodium. The sodium surprises me because I usually don’t see that much sodium in sweet cakes like this.
The ingredients list isn’t surprising for a store-bought bakery item. I’m a bit disappointed they use artificial vanilla, soy flour, palm oil and corn syrup. There’s also a ton of chemical additives and preservatives. Seeing ingredients like this makes me just want to bake something similar at home.
These are just okay, they’re not amazing. They taste a lot like the Kirkland Signature Double Chocolate Muffins with an icing. I don’t really notice anything tuxedo about them either, they’re just like a chocolate cake bite. The icing on top is more sweet than chocolate, it’s quite sweet. The texture of the cake is moist but a bit crumbly. Overall these are fine, they’re not bad just not amazing.

Oh, and I love the idea of putting them in individual muffin wrappers, that’s great for a gathering!
