Natalie reviews: No Sugar Company Dark Chocolatey Peanut Crunch Shellz

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Kirkland Signature Southwest Chicken Wrap with Sauce, Costco Pulmuone Kimchi & Vegetable Dumplings and the Costco Sukhi’s Chicken Tikka Masala.

If you like my reviews for Costco food products, the best thing is that you can follow me on Instagram or Facebook and tell your friends about my blog Costcuisine, where I review new Costco food products each week! You can also check out my YouTube channel, where I do video reviews!

I was craving something like a Reese’s peanut butter cup but a bit healthier version so I picked up these Shellz from the No Sugar Company.

The box contains approximately 30 individually wrapped shells, which look similar to a chocolate Turtle. I paid $15.99 Canadian for the box, which isn’t cheap but a lot of products marketed as low sugar or keto are not cheap!

I like that each Shellz is individually sealed so they’re easy to take with you anywhere you go. The box has a best before date that’s well over a year from when we purchased them. The box recommends keeping the Shellz cool so you could store them in your fridge or basement to keep them fresh and prevent them melting.

One Shellz contains 80 calories, seven grams of fat, eight grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, zero grams of sugar, four grams of erythritol,  three grams of protein and 60 milligrams of sodium. Just because these are low in sugar, it doesn’t make them healthy. A lot of people are sensitive to sweeteners and I don’t love how much palm oil and soy protein there is in these.

I actually really enjoyed these when I first took a bite, the chocolate shell is a bit flaky and dry but the peanut butter filling is really creamy, light and smooth. It’s such a favorful filling! There’s bits of peanuts, rice crisps in the peanut butter which give it some added texture. I immediately thought they tasted just like a crunchy version of a Reese’s peanut butter cup but with dark chocolate. After I tried them though I noticed my mouth felt kind of dry, there was a chalkiness in my mouth and an odd aftertaste as well which kind of turned me off of these. They taste super amazing at first but the lingering taste is not great which makes me not want to buy these again.
