Natalie reviews: Magnum Mini Double Caramel Bars

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Celsius Energy Drink, Costco Rana Tagliolini Seasoned White Chicken & Creamy Lemon Sauce and the Costco Kirkland Signature Custard Pie.

We’re having a super hot weekend in Edmonton so I wanted a cool treat after lunch, I remembered I had bought these Magnum Mini Double Caramel Bars at Costco and wanted to try them and review them before it gets cold!

The box comes with 16 individually wrapped 55 millilitre bars and I paid $16.49 Canadian for the back which isn’t cheap but any Magnum products usually aren’t cheap. They’re marketed as a more premium frozen dessert bar.

The bars need to be kept frozen and each bar is individually wrapped so it’s easy to share them with others or serve them at a event. I think people of all ages groups would enjoy these as long as they like chocolate and caramel!

One bar contains 160 calories, 10 grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 14 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 35 milligrams of sodium. 160 calories seems about right considering the bars aren’t very big. They’re snack sized which is nice if you don’t feel like having a huge dessert. Unfortunately pretty much every ingredient listed is unhealthy but that’s to be expected.

I like these but I feel like they’re more like a chocolate bar than an ice cream bar. Because the bars are small the layer of chocolate and caramel on the outside is pretty thick relative to the ice cream center. You taste the chocolate and caramel more than the ice cream which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you like chocolate and caramel. Overall, they’re pretty sweet and tasty, it’s kind of like a combination of a Caramilk bar and ice cream, even though they’re frozen the caramel is really soft. The flavor of the chocolate and caramel dominates really dominates, it’s hard to taste the flavor of the ice cream but when I did scoop some out to try on it’s own I found that it’s pretty plain tasting without much vanilla flavor.

Cost: 5/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 0/10

Taste: 8/10
