Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bars and the Costco Kirkland Signature Steak and Ale Potato Bake.

I picked up these new Ube Honolulu Cookie Company Shortbread Cookies this week because I’ve tried the other kinds and was curious what the vibrant purple ube ones tasted like! If you’re curious what ube is, it’s a purple yam. I paid $14.99 Canadian for the 454 gram bag.

The expiry date on the bag is ten months from when I bought them. The bag reseals which I appreciate because it keeps the cookies fresh. I like the small size of these cookies because they make a nice little sweet snack with coffee or tea or dessert!

Six cookies have only 140 calories, eight grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre, seven grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 65 milligrams of sodium. One or two is enough to satisfy me, I can’t see myself eating six in one go so these are pretty low in calories and sugar if you just have a couple. They’re not nut-free they may contain peanuts and tree nuts.

I actually really like these and recommend the ube flavor. I prefer them over the pineapple macadamia ones. If you’re worried these might be savory and taste like a yam you’d have with dinner, they don’t. They just have a really nice, sweet vanilla flavor. The texture of the cookies is light and crispy and they kind of melt in your mouth. You can taste that these are made with butter instead of shortening/oil.
