Natalie reviews: Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownies

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Kirkland Signature Chocolate Almond Creme Coated Almonds and the Costco Kirkland Signature Tequila

I needed a sweet snack for packed lunches and I’ve been eyeing these Pillsbury brownies for quite some time so I finally decided to pick them up to try. The box comes with 24 individually packaged brownies and I paid $8.99 Canadian which seems really reasonable.

The best before date on the box is five months from when I purchased the brownies. Each brownie comes individually wrapped so it’s really easy to pop one in your purse, backpack, lunch box or desk at work! Although the box doesn’t blatantly state these are nut free, I didn’t notice any nuts on the ingredients list so they should be school safe. I think kids would love having one of these in their lunch.

One brownie has 100 calories, four grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, nine grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 65 milligrams of sodium. I briefly looked at the ingredients list and was pretty shocked at how much sugar and palm oil these contain. It definitely motivated me to find a good brownie recipe I can make from scratch.

These brownies are soft but slightly on the dry side. I tried these right after a homemade cookie and I definitely noticed the difference, they taste pretty artificial and processed tasting. They have a decent chocolate flavor but there is a bit of an odd taste to them, maybe from all the artificial ingredients. They taste like a very processed brownie, they’re fine for what they are but they’re not great and I wouldn’t buy them again.

Cost: 9/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 0/10

Taste: 4/10
