Natalie reviews: Elan Organic Oh Mega Mix

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Pinty’s Eatwell BBQ Chicken Tenders, Costco Pasta Prima Spinach & Mozzarella Ravioli  and the Costco Kirkland Signature Margarita Wine Cocktail.

If you like my reviews for Costco food products, the best thing is that you can follow me on Instagram or Facebook and tell your friends about my blog Costcuisine, where I review new Costco food products each week! You can also check out my YouTube channel, where I do video reviews!

I needed some snacks to bring camping so I picked up this bag of what seemed to be healthy snack mix during my last Costco run. The 681 gram bag costs $12.99 Canadian which is about the same cost of other similar snacks at Costco.

The mix comes in a resealable bag and the best before date is about 16 months from when I purchased it. It’s perfect for camping, a road trip or to serve as an afternoon or mid morning snack. The ingredients are organic as well as gluten-free.

It’s pretty high in calories despite seeming healthy! A 1/2 cup contains 250 calories, 15 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbohydrates, 16 grams of sugar, three grams of protein and 55 milligrams of sodium. It’s high in fat because of the nuts and it’s also decently high in sugar and carbs while being pretty low in protein. This might not be as healthy as it appears if you’re watching your calorie or fat intake. The ingredients list is pretty good though which simple, whole ingredients.

If you’re looking for a sweet, dessert-style snack mix, this is it. I find it too sweet for my liking. The banana chips are way too sugary in my opinion, I don’t know why they needed to add additional sugar as bananas are naturally sweet. The walnuts are also sweet and some of my nuts had a bit of an odd, chemical aftertaste. The cranberries are large, chewy and also very sweet. Even the dark chocolate is sweet! The only ingredient that’s not sweet is the roasted cashews. Overall the mix is okay but not really amazing, I’d rather eat a small piece of cake for similar calories and fat. I won’t be buying it again.

Cost: 7/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 3/10 (Organic, whole ingredients but sugar is added to everything).

Taste: 6/10

  1. Holy moly! 16g of sugar in a 50g serving? I call that an β€œindecent” amount of sugar πŸ˜‰πŸ˜
