Natalie reviews: Stok Cold Brew

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Fruit & Vegetable Pouches, Costco Rana Fettuccine Grilled Seasoned White Chicken & Alfredo Sauce and the Kirkland Signature Pineapple Coconut Mini Cakes.

I only drink cold brew in the summer but when I have it, I love it. It’s really expensive to buy cold brew from a coffee shop regularly so I picked up this Stok Cold Brew from Costco. The coffee comes in a two pack and costs $11.99 Canadian.

The cold brew needs to be kept refrigerated and the best before date is about five weeks from when it was purchased. It’s a medium roast and I like my coffee black so I don’t add any sweetener or cream/milk. You could definitely boost the flavor by adding flavored creamers, cream, milk or sugar.

One cup of black cold brew contains 10 calories, zero grams of fat, two grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of fibre and sugar, zero grams of protein and 10 milligrams of sodium. Coffee is very low in calories as long as you drink it black. The one thing I don’t love about this cold brew is that it has “natural flavour” added. What even is that and why is it needed?

As I mentioned, this is a medium roast cold brew but I find it a bit disappointing! It has very little flavor when I tried it black, it tastes quite watery. With cream or milk added it has more flavor. It also has a hint of sweetness to it, even black. I think if you don’t like strong coffee or bitter coffee you’ll like this but I found the flavor a bit muted and lacking. I like a bold, robust coffee flavor. It’s not bad, just not very flavorful and very weak tasting.

Cost: 8.5/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: N/A (Everyone has there own opinions on whether coffee is healthy or not).

Taste: 6/10

  1. Ok. Can someone explain cold brew coffee to me please? What’s the deal? How is it any different than just cold coffee (that I throw out)?
