COSTCO BUSINESS CENTRE

Hello there everyone, and happy Sunday!

We were recently in Ottawa, as you may remember from the weekend update post, and there happens to be a business centre about 10 minutes away from the Gloucester location… So you’d better believe I had to go a pay it a visit.

I’d never been to a business centre before believe it or not, though I’d been told I would love it… Folks, it did not disappoint!

From the second I walked into this gigantic warehouse I knew I was in trouble… This is like kitchen gadget heaven, a chef or cooks dream, and I more or less felt like I was in one every aisle I went down. I know how silly that sounds, but there’s something exciting to me about seeing some of these pieces of equipment! I guesss there’s some comfort in it for me as well since I was in kitchens using a lot of these things.

I mean you’d better believe I was trying really hard to justify needing to have a full sized immersion blender…

Of course there’s no real reason to have a full sized monster like that at home, the smaller version however could easily be justified! I’ll say that commercial products like this will last a really long time in the home kitchen with limited abuse and they just work so much better!

Al pastor tacos are a thing of beauty, and while the marinade is a large factor in it’s taste, the cooking method has an equal degree of importance, hence why I started drooling when I saw the trompo, or shawarma machine.

The reason that there’s a similarity is because shawarma was brought to Mexico by Lebanese immigrants in the 19th century and over the course of time it was adapted and adopted into Mexican cuisine. It’s delicious either way, but I’ve got a soft spot for Mexican food… (read more about Shawarma and Al pastor here!) Of course there’s absolutely no way this would make it’s way home with me, but as I’ve said, I can dream…

I also remember these steel prep tables being the best work spaces. Of course these wouldn’t look like a dream kitchen to everyone. But to me, they are.

Of course what prep table is complete without it’s cutting board? And while there are a variety of colours available, stick to the white ones. I’ve used the other colours and eventually the colour starts to strip off and appear in your (in my case) limes and lemons…

…So while I like the blue and red ones, the white cutting board is the way to go.

There’s so many different little things I was fawning over in the next few aisles but I don’t think me being excited over cutlery & bus bins is worth exploring, I don’t know why those things are exciting to me, but they are.  Of course I never look forward to polishing the cutlery to fill these, but it’s satisfying once it’s done.

I could keep going about so many things here, like I said for me this place was a dreamland of kitchen wonders… I did buy something before I left though, and it’s again something that I used many times in my kitchen days.

Just bowls I know, but once you’ve made thousands of salads, tossed countless fries and wings, dusted calamari, smashed guacamole in the same bowls for a long time you get to know the bowl. Sounds weird I know, but it’s true, you get to know the weight, the curve and how you can toss things in it without throwing your goods all over the room!

I could keep going but I won’t. There’s a lot of great things to explore here folks, and only a small portion of what the business centre is.
