Hello Folks!

It’s hard to know where to begin these days with the COVID-19 situation changing (it seems like) hour-to-hour and day-to-day.

In the last few weeks every time I’ve gone to Costco I’ve worn an N95 rated face mask (worn properly and disposed of properly, there is a video of how to do that here!) (Those masks are from when I was painting houses, just so we’re all on the same page with that)  I’ve made sure to respect the physical distancing (something I liked doing anyhow, so this is an easy task for me) and not touch products that I don’t want to purchase. (which again, I don’t often fondle merchandise I don’t intend to purchase)

I’ve been going to Costco after 7 pm which, tonight, was completely empty. This way I can help easily maintain a distance from people and still get the basics we need, also respecting the limit of people in Costco I don’t want to be in there when traffic is high and people need to get in and out.

I feel like I need to be going to make sure people know what’s on sale, you know what you need/want and can be quick about getting in and out. Also you can know if the thing they’re looking for isn’t on sale (or available) then they don’t need to go. I had a member contact me today asking about thermometers, which in Kingston, ON. they are out.  So that will save her a trip to Costco. I feel that that is important, knowing what you need or want isn’t there- that saves a trip.

On another note, I have decided that I won’t be doing my usual Friday visits to Costco for now. Once all this eases up a little bit I’ll resume them, but for now the weekend update will be about the cats and what we’ve been up to, recipes we’ve explored (hopefully some you’ll share with me?)

I did ask for some of your favorite recipes so I could cook them, I’d love to spend some of this time cooking and sharing your favorites! Please share them with me, and the rest of us. And I’ll be happy to cook them and share them back! (This could be fun folks, just sayin’)

I have a question for you folks…

Have you ever thought, “I’ll just have one pistachio” As you reach into a bag of those salty roasted delicious treats?

Yes, I’ve thought that. No, I haven’t accomplished that.

I just wanted a few of them, but that cascaded into a whole other situation… Do I stop now, or just accept defeat and eat the entire bag??? I assure you folks, I could have easily done that… Maybe feel some regret followed by a nap? Not the worst day!

On another note, with all the time off I’ve had I finally got my butt in gear and installed the lazy Susan in our kitchen!

I think it took about 10 minutes to actually install it (after clearing/cleaning the area) The instructions were less than perfect I’d say… You could figure it out, but it was kinda like IKEA went to lunch and left its much younger brother in charge for a few minutes.

It got me through, but left me wanting a bit more in the “details” department… I don’t like drilling holes in things if I don’t have to do so… Details can help with that!

Earth shattering, I know!

With that being said folks it’s bed time, I hope you stay healthy & well. Rest assured you’ll be hearing from me soon!!

in the meantime Ewok says hello, and gets a little nose boop!

Good night folks, see you soon.

***As a quick annotation here, don’t forget that home delivery is an option for alot of services. Costco has it’s home delivery option as well! This is another way we can stay home and still get what we need. Maybe now is a good time to look into local farms and see what they are offering? We have a group of farms and greenhouses that banded together to offer home delivery packages of veggies, eggs and meat. Check out the link here! (Enright Cattle Company, Drain Poultry Farm, Patchwork Gardens and Kendall Hills Farm.) That’s a great way to no only stay home, but also support local business and get some delicious local food! Maybe you’ve got some local farms in your area who are doing the same thing, if so please share them in the comments section!***

***Also, the 5 N95 face masks I have are being donated to Hotel Dieu in Kingston, ON. as of today***

Please note:
The price at your local Costco takes precedent (or precedence) over the prices listed on this blog.
Costco liquidation/Manager’s Special items (ending in .97) vary from store to store.
An asterisk (*) on the price tag means the item is not being re-ordered.

If there is something you really want, ***double check the expiry date*** as some Costco sales items do end mid-week.

***This is a fan run, independent page with no affiliation or endorsement by Costco Wholesale***

The food brands available can differ from region to region. Pictures are taken at a store in Ontario. Sale items should apply to Costco locations in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Nova Scotia, if the item is in stock at your store. There will likely be a few deals not shown here in your store. If this blog has helped you save money, consider sharing www.cocoeast.ca with your friends and family! If you see deals at your store that aren’t on this blog, post them in the comments and help spread the money saving love!

  1. Omg crazy time like these days, you still going out to walk around Costco for us. I really don’t know what to say but the biggest THANK-YOU to you. You are the best!! Stay Safe!! 🙏🙏😊

    • Thank you Mimi, I will still be shopping on Monday’s as we need groceries as well! But That is considered our 1 trip out a week, and I’m very good at physical distancing myself, haha. Not a fan of crowds anyways… Stay safe and healthy and thank you for reading!

  2. Thank you so much for keeping us up to date on what’s on sale at Costco tight now. This is even more valuable right now with COVID-19. Stay safe and take care!

  3. FYI. Walmart removed its flyers online (checked just moments ago). I guess it’s in order not to entice people to go out to snatch a deal. I wonder if Costco will follow suit.

    • I just checked and could not find one either. Some people would then go treasure hunting in Walmart and not get the message not to come

    • Hard to say SuperTomTom, I think Costco will likely keep the flyer to help people plan their visits??? I think that makes sense if we’re all only going out once a week for supplies it’s good to not be wandering around touching everything. Maybe???

  4. Thank you so much for your dedication to providing us with this Costco information. I truly appreciate it. Take care and I will look forward to seeing recipes!!

  5. We did an Ikea kitchen reno over ten years ago, I still love it but my favourite features continue to be the two lazy susans.
Thanks for all your effort keeping us informed on all the Costco news. My husband is our designated shopper but I provide the shopping list as I’m the cook.
    Stay safe and well.

    • Ahh, it’s always good to have designated rolls Viv. I’ve heard from a few people that the IKEA kitchens are great! And yes so far the lazy susan is fantastic!

  6. Your dedication is commendable as we all try to grasp our new so called reality. Here in Ottawa there are still so many who aren’t getting the message….too many out in crowds and on roads. It infuriates me! Please stay safe and thank you from the bottom of heart for keeping us up to date.

    • Thank you Dawn. I think it’s the same in many places where people aren’t getting the message. We’re doing our part by staying home except for myself going out to Costco and physically distancing when I do go. It’s hard for everyone I know, but we’re going to be OK.

  7. You are amazing thank you so much for doing this and being so giving. You are one of a warm kindest person. Please stay healthy and safe.

  8. HAHAHAHA IKEA’s younger brother! Oh had a good laugh on that one!
Does anyone (who likes pistachios) actually eat only one?! I know I can’t do that!

A huge thank you for continuing to go and provide us, your loyal followers, with information. It truly is appreciated. Now go have some cat snuggles!

    • I thought it was kind of funny.
I am not a good “only eat 1” person with anything… Pickles? maybe a few, olives? about a dozen? Kim-Chi? I’ll eat half the container please and thank you.
Oh I’ve had plenty of cat snuggles… I think they’re sick of us now though.

  9. Thanks so much for your posts! It helps so much to make an informed decision about whether that trip out is really necessary during these times of physical distancing. I was very impressed at the measures Costco has taken to guide shoppers. As a nurse, I would also remind everyone to please shop on your own…..get a list from your relative or friend and shop for them, not with them…..and don’t compromise your children’s health – leave them at home while you shop.

    • I agree Mary, we’ve been pretty strict about staying home (with the exception of my late night Costco shop, which I do alone) and when I do go to Costco, maintaining a good distance. Thank you for reading Mary and for your input as well. Thank you for working on the front lines, you deserve all of our respect!!! Stay safe and healthy!

  10. Thank you for still keeping us informed. Is that lazy Susan a retrofit and if so where did you get it? I’ve been looking for the drawers that can be installed in your cabinets too.

    • Hey Donna, yes the lazy susan was bought at Home Depot (in November I might add, finally installed it with all this free time!) And those pull out racks can be purchased at any of the big box stores as well. You can order them online from Lowe’s, Rona or Home depot.

  11. I love and appreciate your blog but please, I am begging you, bring the rest of your N95 masks to your local hospital. I am a frontline worker and we are seeing our stock dwindle daily. When they run out we are more likely to get ill and not be able to take care of the rest of the country. They are so needed in your hospitals right now.

  12. Thank you for the update! I’ve been waiting for the laminate flooring to go on sale … nothing yet. Fingers crossed for next week!

  13. Thanks again for all you do! Not sure when I’ll be back at Costco – kind of afraid to go anywhere now so looking at delivery options here in Ottawa. (If anyone needs a local Ottawa delvery service that can go to Costco and elsewhere for you, I suggest Gopher It.) I have been self-isolating because I had to pick up my mom from the airport a week ago when she returned from Florida.
I found a very simple but yummy recipe for lemon/butter scallops (scallops from Costco of course) that I made for Mom and her fella before they went to Florida in January. They’re both big scallop fans and LOVED it! Here’s the link: https://damndelicious.net/2015/03/14/lemon-butter-scallops/.
And BTW, is it my imagination or are the quinoa salad and Caesar salad containers only partially full in thos photos? Looks odd since they’re usually completely full.
Thanks again and for sharing your recipe ideas (and the great photos).;)

    • What you’re seeing is an overhead light reflection on the plastic lid. And besides, those products are sold by weight so it wouldn’t really matter. Cheers!

    • Hey Susan, that’s great that you’ve taken the high road and self-isolated! And thank you for sharing the Gopher it info. I think having those options makes this time a little more comfortable for everyone knowing they can still get the necessities without having to leave the house.
Hopefully your Mom had a safe trip home? That recipe looks delicious!!!

  14. Well here I am going into my 3rd Costco-free week! It’s saving us a wad of $$ lol. When our official self iso ends this Sunday, I may still stay away since the majority of my grocery purchases (meat, veggies, bread) are done at my local grocery store. Costco is my “go to” for clothes and other neat stuff I just can’t pass up.
Last night we had roasted pork loin & gravy with roasted root veggies (potatoes, carrots, rutabaga & a whole garlic head). I love it when the entire meal is done in the oven with not too much advance prep! I slathered the loin in Dijon mustard with minced garlic then rolled it in rosemary and thyme which forms a tasty crust and adds tons of flavour to the gravy. The veggies were sprayed with olive oil then a light sprinkle of Trader Joe’s (gosh I wish we had that chain in Canada!) umami seasoning. Omg it’s so good. I have a friend who spends the winter in Palm Desert and always brings me something back from that store. If you ever get the chance to get some of it, buy a case!
Now the best part of last night’s meal? Leftovers…. yay!! TTFN & mucho appreciation, Jan

    • 3 weeks and no Costco… How are you feeling about that Jan??? I’d be having serious withdrawls…
Mmmmm, that sounds delicious…. I love those kind of one pan wonder meals. Prep it all toss it in the oven and come back in an hour and done!
Oh man, do I ever wish we had a Trader Joe’s here. Anytime my partner and I travel to the states we always find one and basically blow our budget shopping there… Might have to go online and just browse their website to kill some time now.

  15. And in other good news, I’m reading where Costcos across Canada & the US are posting signs refusing to take any returns on tp, paper towels, rice, water & Lysol! Good move!

  16. Thank you so much for soldiering on at Costco for us, bringing all the secret sales. I’m sure no one would mind if you took a break for a while. You certainly sound as though you are being very cautious, but still.

We all love hearing about your cooking adventures, pictures and all.

Great seeing your fur babies and what they are up to as well. 🐈 🐈

Please take good care everyone, stay safe! XOX

    • Thank you Layla. Yes, I’m being very cautious and so is my partner. I’ll keep posting (likely tonight) sharing recipes, and pictures of the cats of course. Stay safe and healthy Layla and I’ll see you soon!

  17. How ironic… a paper towel holder on sale. When there are no paper towels in the 5 stores around my house. Oh well

    • Really??? We had lots of paper towel in Kingston, but still no T.P. Though I went towards the end of the night so…

  18. Thank-you for sharing a photo of Ewok. Thank-you for sharing your weekly post too and the personal risk you took to do it. As others have mentioned, I think we would all understand for your own safety if you miss a few posts. I understand your caring nature in wanting to help other shoppers save time and trips out to Costco, but you need to weigh the risks. Even if you only touch what you plan to buy, and wipe down the handle bar of your grocery cart, others have still touched it or coughed on it too and a virus can stay on surfaces for various periods of time depending on what it is. PC optimum sent an email out that confirmed their first employee who got the virus. It won’t be long for someone at a Costco warehouse to get sick too. Health care workers are running low on PPE and dropping like flies as well. You are donating what you have left over to the hospital. That means you plan on going out now unprotected and that worries me thinking about it. Please stay safe and healthy.

    • Thank you Winnie. I understand your concern, and I’m sure it’s shared with a majority of us here as well. We are being very careful about what were doing, following all the guidelines, staying away from people. As things keep changing so will I. Stay safe and healthy Winnie.

    • Thank you for the info Pierre. While most of the sales are consistent across eastern Canada, there will be some exceptions. Please see the F.A.Q. fr more info on that. (click this link)
